Speeches and Statue Unveiling Part One

Part one of the speeches and unveiling  of the special statue of Her Majesty the Queen. Speakers include John  Bercow, Speaker of the house of commons, and Secretary of State Philip Hammond who is also a local MP.

I spoke to the Donny family who were seated in the sunshine on a special bench in memory of members of their family who passed away. The bench was previously located at the site of the new statue and as a result was relocated to a new spot by the river.

More from Sunday 14th June 2015 as a statue depicting the queen in her younger years was unveiled  in Egham I found out about the company who supplied the paving stone for the area around the statue and also got the view from Geoff Whatly vicar at St John  the Baptist church Egham  and Rural   Dean of Runnymede

I spoke to the Mayor of Runnymede about the days festivities. I also spoke Andy Smith from the Knights Templar of England about this historic document and its impact on us today.

Philip Hammond at Magna Carta 800 Celebrations

Foreign  Secretary and local MP Mr Philip Hammond was among the dignitary's present at the unveiling of a special statute of the Queen in Egham. The statue marks the 800th anniversary of Manga Carta which was sealed in Runnymede in 1215. It is also likely to the the latest statue of Hr Majesty  when the queen breaks the record for the longest reining Monarch in September  Mr Hammond  told me about the statue and the legacy of Manga Carta in the 21st century.

RADIO WEY SUNDAY 14TH JUNE 2015Camila Smilie came to the studio tonight to talk all about the work of Free Cakes for Kids, an organisation who bake birthday cakes for youngsters who may otherwise go without. Camlla is the organizer of the newly formed group in Egham and  Staines and is after budding bakers in the area  to volunteer  their time and get busy in the kitchen to help spread happiness through cakes.  If you can help please contact Camila on the links below.
