I really love hearing about the great ideas and inciatives that are run acros the Ashford and St Peters Hospital trust. The Swan Ward lunch club is a simple yet very effective idea. Once a week, on a Thursday lunchtime, patients are encouraged to sit around a table for their lunch rather than be served food in bed. This really aids the patients and allows them to come together and have a chat.

Meet Sally Woods. Sally is the jam lady of St Johns. The community regularly stop by the stall outside of Sally's house and choose their favourites from Sally's stock of home made jams, preserves, and chutneys. She even makes her own cordials now. All this is made in her home, using produce sourced from her garden, her allotment, and produce from freinds who have surplus.
Once customers have finished they are invited to return the jars so sally can re use and recycle. This is a brilliant local cottage industry just opposite St Johns Lye in the villiage near Woking.
The products are purchased using an honesty box system. Take what you wish and put money in an envelope through Sally's door. Currently all the jams, preserves and cordials are priced at two pounds each, or 3 for a fiver.

The Campaign for Real Ale celebrates 40 years of The Great British Beer Festival this year. Since the 1970s there has been a huge increase in the number of independent brewers in the UK. I went along the Platform 3 in Claygate. This is the brewery tap for Brightwater Brewery. The brewery and the pub are run by Alex and Sue. This is, we think the smallest pub in the UK and can be found in the beautiful village of Claygate - right by the station in the heart of the community.
