The Community Radio Awards 2024 is an exciting event that celebrates the best in community radio across the UK. The awards recognize the hard work and dedication of volunteers and stations that serve their communities. This year, the awards ceremony took place on November 16th at Cardiff City Stadium, following the UK Community Radio Networks national Community Radio conference.
Radio Woking was nominated in four categories:
Nel Op de Beck Best Newcomer
Matt Price - Specialist Music
Myself for Community Show of the Year
and Luke McNamara for Young Person of the year for which he received a bronze award.

I spoke to Tansy Forster who came up with the idea for the Longest Yarn. This is a collection of 80 3D displays in wool art telling the story of the build up to D DAY.
The collection is on tour in the UK then going to America. You can see it at the the Royal Garrison Church of All Saints, Aldershot until 18th November. Tansy would like to thank sponsors Brittany Ferries and Big G Logistics for their support in this project.

I spoke to Julia Dickinson from the AMC Wellbeing Cafe at Aldershot Methodist Church. Julia told me about a brilliant project where the community has produced a cascade of poppies for Remembrance Day. The poppies are displayed at the front of the Princes' Theatre in Aldershot.
